Holy hip hop apotomous! I just snarfed a burger to the face, and it was the best hunk of cow I've eaten in a hot minute. Straight up. Also, as far as service, my bartender Neil did a legendary service to the hospitality industry. The bar has been set wildly high due to this man, he a god among men, his expedience and service would make any patron blush with pride. And furthermore, let me tell you about the ambiance! Holy snap! The view! If I was a tween I'd be all "OH EM GEE". Literally the best freaken view on the boards. If you take anything away from this review, take my advice and take some time on your vacation, or local life to make some memories, eat some delicious food, enjoy hangover causing elixirs and thank me later for the advice. Real talk.

This is probably one of the most mediocre and uninspiring meal experiences I've had in a while. It gets one star for convenience alone. We were in Rehoboth for the day and are not from the area and we were a group of 10: 6 adults and 4 cranky hungry children. This was the first place we came to so we made the easy call. The location is nice because it's right on the boardwalk. The menu is not very extensive and pretty basic, which is fine. I don't have an issue with a small, basic menu; just make sure the food is good. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with sweet potato fries. It didn't taste fresh was just bland and boring. The mister had the fish and chips with a salad and said it was just ok. I ordered a Sam Summer on tap and it was the worst pint of beer I've had since 1998: the year I graduated college and stopped drinking flat, skunked, frat house beer. Needless to say, if we ever come back to Rehoboth, we will not be returning to Obie's.

Three of us tried to stop in for a drink on a hot day at around 5 p.m. We were told we could only sit at the bar because we weren't ordering food. There was no seating available at the bar yet plenty of tables available both inside and out. So they basically refused to seat us at this bar unless we ordered food. I've never experienced such rudeness at a restaurant/bar before. There was no signage indicating this policy. I wish I could leave zero stars. I would recommend taking your money to someplace that actually cares about customer service.

Ok, Obie's is not the best bar in town. It's the only bar that's still open. And everyone's here. You can go for a drink, or you can go to sleep. The choice is yours, so adjust your expectations and be reasonable.

This is a great stop if you want to watch the waves while enjoying a drink and some food. They have a good happy hour and the staff is friendly.

We used to love the crab dip here, it was one of our favorites. They've gone cheap and it's all artichoke and spinach. Couldn't finish it. For a prime location, they should have kept the quality and not gone cheap. We probably won't be back. Gave an extra star because our waiter was good.

AVOID this place. We gave it two tries and what a waste on such a beautiful Boardwalk. Incompetent staff, mediocre food, and horrible service. In addition, we had to wait for all of our food for more than an hour!!!ONCE AGAIN, AVOID. If I could give zero stars I would.

Convenient retreat from sun bathing. Over priced and subpar food. I got the shrimp salad, not seasoned well, but c'est la vie. Great bartenders and serviceJim, has been here over 16 years. Great view of ocean, inside and outside seating. But 1/2 lb $16.50 steamed shrimp? Nah...no worries, will return! Please change shrimp salad recipe to traditional w old bay. :-)

  • Akisha J.

Slow service...overpriced food! Stay away. A side of fries os 8 bucks... if you sit at the bar be prepared to yell foe your bartender about 5 times before they actually acknowledge you...

It was OK food at overly high prices. Crab artichoke and cheese dip was good but nothing to write home about, especially with corn chips right out of the bag: I could have made this at home by opening a few cans. Wife's shrimp salad wrap was fresh but was dry and needed more flavor. She used tartar sauce from my crabcake sandwich and said it was much better. My sandwich was decent size but there wasn't much crab flavor... or flavor of any kind. Fries and slaw were good. For those prices, it ought to all be very good. Would not repeat other than for a drink.

The second star is just for the location. The food is awful ! It is the best bar location right on the boardwalk, and unfortunately we don't go because the food is not worth eating. Such a shame, because we would love to frequent it if it were even decent! The staff isn't friendly, or attentive...also a shame. It could easily be so great with better food and better leadership. They are squandering an amazing location. They are busy ONLY because of the location.

Gross. Yuck. Disgusting. This place really is the worst. The only reason this toilet of an establishment remains in business is because it's right on the boardwalk. The food is awful - as in, it tastes like mildewed dishtowels and make sure you're near a bathroom after eating here. The service is even worse. The staff is annoyed you're there. Most of the time they are sitting at the bar on their phones. They are so slow, almost to the point where you think they are playing a game of who can do less. Avoid this place at all costs! Only go here if you want to be treated poorly and have diarrhea.

First of all, let me begin this review by stating two things: 1. I am generally pretty easy to please 2. This is my first EVER yelp review. That said, I must say the food at this place was nothing short of disgusting and overpriced. The first "red" flags came in the form of the dressing that my friends had on their side salads that tasted like a mix of strawberry Kool-aid and vinegar. I myself had the hobo dog, which had a mango chutney on it so syrupy that I could not bring myself to finish it. Ever hopeful, I exchanged it for the chili dog. I would say that the chili tasted like it came from a can, but that would be an insult to companies that produce canned chili. Overall, if you're looking for food, please steer clear of this place. That side, the fries and drinks weren't horrible and the service wasn't bad either. But it definitely leaves with with the impression that most of your money is going to the location rather than the food.

The bar has some nice IPAs on tap. I recommend those. Food's OK for lunch. It's open air right on the Boardwalk. That's a plus.

The pkace has a SERIOUS fly infestation problem. If you don't mind literally a dozen flies flying around you and landing on your food then you may enjoy eating there. The problem is with that many flies in the restaurant I have to imagine that they're gettimg on the food in the kitchen. It's a nice spot on the boardwalk and family friendly. We won't go back unless they fix this fly problem.

Bar by the beach. Strong drinks. Good crabcake sandwich. Service is pretty inattentive. Did I mention it is by the beach?!?

  • Victor P.

So disappointed, the burger was ok. The appetizer came out not as ordered. Since he didn't write it down however he didn't write down the order. So one meal didn't come out correct after the nachos didn't come out correctly. What a fun dinner :(

This place is more of a beach bar then a restaurant, but it's by far the best beach bar in town. Fantastic open air feel right on the boardwalk. Highly recommend grabbing a couple cold ones here at the end of a hot summer day.

3.5 stars... Unfortunately Rehoboth Beach doesn't have any beach bars so the next best thing is drinking beside the beach on the boardwalk where you can still see the ocean and sand and get that gentle breeze while getting your buzz on. This is limited to less than half a dozen businesses, Obie's is one of the only ones that has outdoor seating in addition to the full sized bar that feels very open as well. I came here a couple times for drinks, never the food. My Coors Light wasn't the freshest or coldest I've ever had but it was priced well and the service was good so I can't complain too much.

A nice little spot for lunch. The food was good and the beer selection was decent for a beach bar. The service was extremely good - fast and friendly.

Went two nights for cocktails because they have an outdoor patio where you can drink. Drinks were fine, bartenders personable. Not expensive. My 6 year old chomped his cheeseburger which looked decent. But I can't attest to food.

Food was very disappointing.. shrimp was way overcooked. Too expensive for the quality of food. Not to mention..the bartender was very unfriendly. MY boyfriend and I are of Mexican and mixed culture. We also work as bartenders in the service industry. Despite the terrible service we received, we still left the bartender a 40% tip and he didn't even attempt to engage in conversation with us. I am no Where near impressed and will not return to this establishment again.

These people are a bunch of conniving, inbred thieves. I recently had my wedding in Rehoboth, and we decided to host a cocktail party on Friday September 19th at Obie's. What started out as a great night turned into a nightmare, after one of their "regular" patrons (a 300+ pound male) pushed my aunt off of her barstool, then threatened her husband - who in turn tried to defend his wife. The barstaff saw the WHOLE THING unfold, and did nothing because this guy was a "regular" - and was a KNOWN nuisance to the staff at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel - recently fired for being drunk and disorderly on the job there. My large, peaceful wedding party (mostly middle aged, professionals in their 40's and 50's) were asked by the police to leave the bar, while this crumbbag stayed (at the amusement of the bartenders). I also noticed a fraudulent charge of $350 on my AMEX that I did not sign for, or authorize. These people are absolute criminals. And the food sucks too. Avoid at all costs!!!

Only one bartender on a very busy Sunday in the summer. Plus, I found a green/blue moldy something in my draft beer. I asked for the manager because the bartender was so busy and she seemed annoyed and said "we are not perfect." To be fair gave me a free beer but I have never had what appears to be mold in my beer. There are better places.

Today was terrible. We ordered wraps and salads and it took over 45 minutes. All the tables were waiting. The server wouldn't even make eye contact with us let alone fill our drinks without asking. So sad bc this used to be a big favorite. Definitely has gone downhill. I will NOT be going back!

My All American burger was cooked to my specs, wonderful view of the ocean, right on boardwalk, very friendly service.

This place used to be really nice. But lately the hostesses are very fake and don't know what they are doing, they tell us 20-30 min wait when they have tables open, the prices go up but the quantity of food goes down, and this past Saturday was just icing on the cake. I went with my parents for lunch on Saturday, September, 6th, 2014, the hostess (Nancy) was very fake and made faces at me (she was an older lady. I never would have expected that from someone her age.) So a party of 3 and we wanted to sit in the shade because it was excruciatingly hot in the sun. She had 2 four table tops pushed together to make one big table for 6. We asked her if we could just pull them apart, but she said no because that was her only 6 top. So my parents and I were debating if we wanted to sit inside instead because we were starving. But in the mean time a couple came. My dad told them why we were just hanging around the host stand and asked them if they would like to split the table with us. The couple was more than happy to, so the woman told the hostess to which the hostess just said, "fine." So we pulled apart the two four tops and sat down. As we were getting ready to leave, a party of 3 and a party of 2 came. The hostess took the 2 four tops that were pushed together NEXT TO US and SPLIT them so the the two parties could sit down! I kept hoping this place would get better, but I guess not. It's a shame there isn't another spot on the boardwalk that doesn't smell of pizza or fried food. P.S. the waiters are great though! I guess one plus...and this is my very first Yelp review. I had to make an account actually and I did because I'm fed up with them.

You cannot get more "By the Sea" than Obie's - directly on the boardwalk, and one of the places that feels most beach-y authentic on the Rehoboth strip - Small place, super-uber casual offering an interior and exterior bar. Definite extra star for surprisingly clean bathrooms. Table service is young and eager, quick to act and overall pretty good for a summer place. Bartenders are not young nor eager, a bit frazzled but they've been around the block and they'll get around to serving you when they get around to serving you. Menu is pretty lamentable - terribly average and not particularly good. Crispy fries and they make a decent crab dip. I figure that this place is only good to grab a couple generic appetizers, cocktails and beers for a mid-day lunch break, or late day happy hour after sunning on the beach. The set-up and architecture of the place leaves something to be desired, namely, I wish the beach bar was bigger and situated closer and in line sight with the beach. Overall, not too shabby, but not worth a wait.

Worse service EVER!!!!!' Go next door to the fabulous Boardwalk Hotel. Then spend the night it is enchanting. I seriously can't remember a bar/restaurant with worse staff. AND we are serious world travellers. I doubt they will last the year unless someone makes drastic changes. Just don't go!!!!! They don't even deserve 1 star

Food was ok-- not great. Daughter ordered a crabcake sandwich at market price-- $18. We should have asked about market price before ordering. Our mistake. The waiter spilled lemonade on my son- like a whole cup of lemonade- and did not offer to bring napkins. He offered a simple "Sorry" and moved on. Not cool. You're paying for the view and seats by the sea here, not great food or service.

Pitiful drink selection... Don't even carry Dogfishhead or Wild Turkey

Beware gluten free/celiacs folks. In the menu they are very gluten free friendly and knowledgeable and even state on it "Obie's managements recognizes and is responsible to this dietary challenge". Sounds great, I ordered the turkey burger. The waitress was not as knowledgeable as she should have been and I had to express gluten free multiple times. The burger arrived and I took a bite of it. I started to look around the table and noticed that all of our buns looked the same. I asked my boyfriend to taste my bun and tell me if it was different from his. He said it was exactly the same. I spoke with a waitress asked her and then the manager came over and said it was not the gluten free bun and they brought my burger back on a gluten free bun. For those of us with celiacs, this is a huge issue. A new burger should have been made on the proper bun. I appreciate restaurants offering gluten free options, but they need to be knowledgeable and aware of how to serve gluten free properly. It's like saying I have a peanut allergy, giving me a PPJ sandwich and then wiping the peanuts off and telling me it's fixed. It's not. To top it off, when we got the bill they charged us extra for the gluten free bun. Will not be returning. Wanted to let this be known for other gluten free and celiacs individuals.

Obies is always a good choice for lunch on the boardwalk!

Terrible service. Can't comment on the food or drinks because we couldn't take any more attitude, we b-lined for the exit before we had the chance to order anything and took our business elsewhere. For a beach bar you'd think they'd more friendly and laid back. Beware of this place!

  • Jim S.

I think this place survives on the bar and location alone because the food is mediocre at best and everything is painfully expensive. Also, bring a fly swatter to protect your food. You would think they would put a citronella candle on the table but that might be too much thought. Lastly, they put all drinks in those plastic airline cups so you are out after the first sip and it takes forever to get them to notice you for a refill.

We went down to the outside bar to have a few drinks. Excellent location and views right on the boardwalk BUT the bartender was a total douche bag which just about ruins the the experience. I mean why would management let this guy be the face of their business? Rude, crusty and caustic are not traits people look for in a bartender. Way to many other bars around.

Fucking abysmal. Out of french fries. Out of fish and chips. Out of chicken tenders? Terribad service. Off tasting swordfish. Fuck these people.

  • Bill N.

I got fooled a bit by the beer prices- the sign said $3 but it was actually $4 because it wasn't after 9pm. But the beer was fine and so was the crab dip. The chili fries were just so so and not very big.

    (3)
  • Kate E.

It's probably better as a bar due to the location right on the ocean. I went for lunch and it was okay. The service was unobjectionable, the fish and chips were good, the tuna burger was only okay, but there are better options in town.
